sits comfortably in 92-95 range; early in starts have seen it touch 96, 97; missed bats at any velocity; ball jumps out of his hand with late arm-side life; also throws some with more sink in lower velo band; was still missing bats at 90; huge deception and movement pitch; uses all 4 quadrants effectively; barely gets squared.
Want to see the FB consistently sit in higher velocity band throughout starts, something that will happen as the arms strength builds. |

plus spin and tilt; hard bite and late break; shows great shape; big deception in pitch, comes from same arm slot as FB; will add and subtract to vary break and depth; at lower velo band, will show bigger break but still has good shape and effectiveness; higher velo band, shows sharper bite and tilt; loves to backdoor RHH; will show chase pitch to LHH with big break at 78; tight spin, sharper bite at 86 for K pitch in the zone.
Needs more consistency using the pitch effectively in the strike zone. He shows the ability to use the SL to all quadrants but presently inconsistent. The pitch itself has the plus-plus bite, depth and shape but the command and consistency of using it effectively needs work. This is something that will come with reps.

Manaea biggest asset is his deception. He repeats his mechanics with ease and his command profile is plus. Watching Manaea paint the corners with 95 was something special. I didn’t see the consistent high velocity with the FB early in the year but I have recently. Honestly, it doesn’t really matter because his stuff still misses bats consistently. His Slider is his best secondary offering. He adds and subtracts from it nicely showing a bigger breaker and tighter one. I think we’ll see him build strength and the FB velocity will sit higher more consistently but right now he’s dominating hitters with the stuff he has now. I have yet to see a ball get completely squared off of him in a few of his starts. Very good arm.
