Ty Madden

Born: 02/21/2000 (Age: 21)
Bats: Right Throws: Right
Height: 6' 3" Weight: 215
Mechanics
Madden's delivery is compact and repeatable. Smooth probably isn't the best word to describe his motion, but neither is effortful. There's nothing inherently flawed about it, and by itself shouldn't require a change.

Pitch Type Future Grade Sitting Velocity Peak Velocity Report
FB 55 92-96 97 The velocity could have this pitch as a 60, but the command is keeping it lower. This is Madden's primary weapon, and it's his best. He's willing to throw it anytime to any hitter, and will attack with it. As the game goes on however, he starts to lose feel for it. The drift results in either balls or more hittable pitches. Later in games also the velo decreases, with more 2s and 3s than 5s and 6s.
SL 50 85-87 88 Madden's primary secondary, the slider plays better against lefties than righties. Madden is able to have it catch the corner/edge of the zone against LHHs, but against RHH it ends up missing more than desirable. When the command is off, it becomes unpredictable in a bad way. The shape is fine, but not exceptional. It looks and acts like a slider consistently, which is good.
CV 45 81-83 84 Definitely the silver medalist of the Madden breaking balls, the pitch definitely needs more work. There's potential to it, but right now it lacks break and shape to elevate the quality. The result is a more hittable pitch than desired, but could be turned into a plus pitch. A good potential pairing with the slider if both improve.
CH 40 82-84 85 Not used enough, but does flash some potential.
Overall

There's a lot of volatility in the profile of Madden. The scouting report reads more like a modern power reliever than a starter, though Madden will get the chance to start in the minors. If Madden can firm up the secondaries, he can remain a starter. If he doesn't, the FB/SL combination will carry him to the big leagues as a late inning reliever.
