George Kirby

Born: 02/04/1998 (Age: 21)
Bats: Right Throws: Right
Height: 6' 4" Weight: 215
Mechanics
Squared to the plate, slight rock step into windup with good shoulder rotation generating torque and power down through plant leg. Repeatable delivery with good rhythm and tempo. Arm action is fairly clean, some effort and minimal head whack, but keeps eyes locked in on target.

Pitch Type Future Grade Sitting Velocity Peak Velocity Report
Fastball 60 92 95 Attacks early and often with easy command and control to all quadrants of the zone. Velocity is routinely low-90s but has the juice to get into the mid-90s when needed. Potential to add strength could lead to a small uptick in sitting velocity, although strength would likely benefit durability more than power. In addition to command and velo, has a late wiggle that makes the pitch difficult to find with the barrel.
Curveball 55 77 79 Not really used as a chase pitch, but can throw to either side of the plate and vary shapes from 11/5 to 12/6, keeping hitters off balance. Release is consistent and doesn't telegraph too much. Used mainly against left-handed hitters, but threw with confidence against righties as well.
Slider 45 83 84 Wasn't sharp in the look... flashed late bite, but left it up and flat above the zone repeatedly. Did a good job of recognizing early it wasn't on, and instead featured more of the curve. Mainly used against righties to get hitters off the fastball.
Changeup 55 84 85 The least frequent pitch of his repertoire, showed flashes of plus sink and depth with good arm action. Had trouble with feel of the pitch, but showed a lot of promise in limited usage.
Overall

Kirby represents a safe prospect with a high floor, but lacks for loud tools. His best feature is the command of his pitches, which projects plus to double-plus across the board. He uses the arsenal well to pound the zone with the fastball and keep hitters on their toes, playing each pitch off the other. A good athlete with good mechanics, plus command, and some physical projection still left, the full package is one of the best and most underrated pitching prospects in the draft.
